Ready Up – Guinness World Record: Burnout Paradise 24 hours

In March 2009, we were approached by Dan and Kirsten from Ready Up about using Esc as a venue for setting a new record for the new Guiness World Records: Gamer Edition.
Heres an extract from ReadyUps website about the event:
A group of die-hard videogamers hopes to set a new world record and break in to the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition with a challenging 24-hour gaming marathon.
Staff of gaming website Ready Up (www.ready-up.net) will converge on Esc Gaming centre (www.esc-games.com), Hope St, Glasgow on April 18, 2009 to set the Longest Marathon Playing a Driving Game record. Six people, backed up by their own support team, will play EA’s driving game Burnout™ Paradise over Xbox Live for a day and a night in front of Official Guinness World Record adjudicators. The players will be allowed only short bathroom and eating breaks.
Participant and former Frag Doll Kirsten Kearney, who already holds a Guinness World Record for the First Person Shooter Marathon, said: “Going for this kind of marathon gaming record is a lot harder than you might think. Keeping your morale up while concentrating on a screen and maintaining hand-eye coordination is tough, and you have to rely on using your second and third wind to help you through hardest going parts. It’s made easier by the fact that we have chosen a game like Burnout Paradise, which has a great deal of variety and fresh downloadable content that we can use.”
The world record attempt will raise money in support of GamesAid (www.gamesaid.org), the new UK videogames industry charity, which distributes funds to a diverse range of children and young people’s charities.

The event was a success, and after 24 hours a new record was set by ReadyUp. The event was later featured on several website and also appeared on the xbox dashboard.

Ready Up – Pure Belter Super Street Fighter IV Preview Event

Once again, Ready Up and Esc team up for another event, this time and most recently the preview event for Super Street Fighter IV!
We were hosts to the Super Street Fighter IV Preview which was held on Saturday 17th April 2010 two weeks prior to the games official UK launch date.
Naturally members of the press, professional gamers and the public were there and there was loads of chances to not only play the game but to win prizes in various themed tournaments which was held throughout the day. Prizes included two Real Arcade Pro Joysticks courtesy of Hori and official designer quality Street Fighter T-Shirts from Level Up Wear.
We also teamed up with Gforce where attendees could preorder the game from them with a discount!
We recieved 20 official copies of the game prior to the event and had more than 10 setups on the event day
Capcom was also on hand to offer guidance on the new fighters and features in Super Street Fighter IV

In a dark basement in the middle of Glasgow a multitude of young men and women gather to test their skills in a fighting arena, no this is not another Chuck Palahniuk novel, this is the preview tournament sponsored by Ready Up for Super Street Fighter IV (SSFIV) at ESC Games; and only rule here is winner stays on.
The anticipation is rampant come 11am with whoops of joy and excitement as the fans bring their own joysticks to have a hands-on on the newest fighter for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The general buzz from these hardcore fans was that Street Fighter IV had too many annoying problems, well from the feedback I received; SSFIV will please the followers and relative newcomers alike. With around 10 consoles to fight over there was plenty of chances for everyone to get a go, once the players had set up their favourite joysticks it was time to pour over the new characters and then pause the action to scrub up on their new moves.
